    18 de January, 2021

Despite not being one of the most touristic provinces in Argentina, Tucumán has many interesting places to get to know and visit. But which ones to choose? By simplifying your work and giving you a better reference, we bring you this top 5 with the best must-see excursions in Tucumán.

    1. Tafí del Valle

It is undoubtedly one of the most famous sites of Tucumán and is understandable, as it is the jewel of the Calchaquíes Valleys. Tafí del Valle stands out for its green and lush landscapes, almost jungle, very different from the somewhat desert landscapes of the rest, which is mainly due to moisture in the area.

But it’s not all about landscapes. There are several activities to do in Tafí del Valle, being Abra del Infiernillo one of the must-sees of this destination. It is the highest passable point in the entire province.

Additionally, there are several viewpoints whose sights are majestic. There is the Mirador del Cerro de la Cruz and the Mirador el Indio, where the famous Monument to the Indian is located.

However, Tafí del Valles’ favorite activity is a visit to El Mollar, a village that is a few kilometers away and is surrounded by nature that includes the Dique La Angostura, whose extension allows for nautical and fishing activities.

Right there at El Mollar –of 800 hectares– is the Provincial Park Los Menhires, where you can find cultural manifestations with the same name. Basically, they are large pieces of stones carved end-to-end.

    2.  Historical House Museum Tour

Going to Tucumán and not visiting the famous Historic House is almost like not having been in the province. The importance of the Historical House to Argentina makes it one of the most important excursions of the province.

In the Museum you can see different documents and pieces directly linked to the Declaration of Independence, which you will not find anywhere else. Furthermore, the Historic House is composed of six rooms and three patios with furniture from that time. Learn more about this place and similar ones in our article on the 5 best museums in Tucumán.

    3.  Amaicha valley tour

This is an excursion that is gaining more and more forte in Tucumán. Amaicha del Valle is positioning itself as a must-see tourist site in the province for its beautiful landscapes, its enviable weather (it only rains 5 days a year) and the observatory from where you will contemplate the stars like never before.

Why Amaicha? It turns out that this place retains several of its traditional structures, which guarantees a more precise knowledge of the culture of the indigenous Calchaquí peoples.

As if that were not the case, the close relationship between Amaicha and the Pachamama provides a magical experience. Mother Earth is the most important thing for this village and you can discover it thoroughly at the Pachamama Museum. On the other hand, you can also consider the Pachamama National Festival, a must-see event that you can learn more about at The Popular Tucumán Festivals.

    4.  Quilmes Ruins

Another must-see excursion in Tucumán is the visit to the Quilmes Ruins, one of the cultural treasures of the province and the whole country. These ruins, also known as the Ancient Holy City of Quilmes, are the remains of the largest pre-Columbian settlement of which there are records in the country. This is how it integrates this list with the 5 must-see excursions in Tucumán.

For this destination, it’s recommended to have the accompaniment of a guide. It is very important to take the tour with someone trained, depending on who informs us about everything we are seeing. Thus, you will be able to understand how the ancient inhabitants of the place lived and what the areas of cultivation were, housing and even defense methods against the advances of the Spaniards during the invasions.

    5.  Las Yungas Tour

Last but not least, we have a must-see excursion for nature lovers: the visit to Las Yungas. This is a region characterized by its curious mountain forest and a cloudy, rainy and tropical weather, which gives the feeling of being in the jungle in the middle of the mountain.

The Yungas are very extensive, so the surroundings of Yerba Buena, Raco and El Siambón are the usually visited by general public. You can also exploit the tour and get to know San Javier and its incredible panoramic view of the city of San Miguel.
