Skiing in Cerro Castor, a Family experience! Unskippable if you visit Ushuaia during winter. It’s the southernmost ski resort in the world with areas for all ages.

Impossible to travel to Ushuaia in winter and not ski in Cerro Castor. Not only it’s settled at the End of the World, but its geographical position allows this place to concentrate snow of the best quality. Not for nothing is the most visited ski center by international and regional teams for their annual training.
Located just 26 km from the city, on a southern slope of Tierra del Fuego province, it maintains temperatures between -5 and 5°C. From there the perfect quality of its powdered snow, although it also influences the fact that it has an Artificial Snow Network (with 28 technoalpie cannons), that covers from the middle area to the base and guarantees this white mantle throughout the season.
Its infrastructure is similar to that of the most renowned winter centers in Europe, as well as its exclusive design. It has a complex of 15 strategically distributed cottages in the middle of a century-old forest of Lengas. In that sense, it also gives us spectacular views of the place.
If it is tracks, we tell you that it has a total of 33. There are different difficulties: easy, intermediate, connecting path, difficult and very difficult. So you don’t have to worry if you’re a beginner. You can start your experience in snow with cross-country skiing at Caminito del Bosque, Castorcitos I, II and III; The Beavers, Woodpecker, Guanaco Path, Bandurrias and Cormoranes.
As for lifting media, Forest Aerosilla is recommended. Everyone –skiers, beginners, children and the elderly– can climb to level 480, the heart of the mountain.
In case you are traveling with babies or children, keep in mind that the Cerro Castor Ski Center offers you a baby nursery from 3 months of age and a school where children up to 14 years old teach classes.

SKI AND SNOWBOARD SCHOOL, ALSO FOR CHILDREN
If you want to go beyond a day of adventure, perfecting the techniques for skiing or snowboarding, take it easy! Cerro Castor offers schools for adults and children:
- Adult Lessons: You can learn Skiing, Snowboarding, Bottom, Off-Piste, Free-ride from the Castor Park slopes and Special Capabilities, through a school that works with 80 instructors. To do this, there are several modalities:
- Private lessons: for those who require or seek personalized attention, either to take the first steps or perfect the technique.
- Collective classes: for those who already have a certain level of technique and have no problem working with groups. They are made on two hours modules (from 12:00 hs to 14:00 hs). Sundays and Mondays are intended for beginners.
- Special skills service: these classes are booked in advance via e-mail and organized based on students’ abilities.
- Mountain guide service: off-piste skiing with various difficulties and risk management. In this case, classes are half day or full day. That’s why they must be requested one day in advance.
- Ski lessons for children on Cerro Castor:
Thinking of the youngest in the house, Cerro Castor also has a school in which children between 7 and 14 years of age are taught. In this case, instructors work with groups formed for the same technical level, depending on how they learn but also enjoy each challenge of the tracks.
Classes at school start between 10:00 hs and 10:20 hs with a meeting at the base next to the Forest Chairlift, ending at 16:45 hs (in front of the secretariat at level 480). Beginners can join classes only on Sundays and Mondays. The rest, you can do it any day of the week, as long as there are groups of students with the same technical level.
For children it’s recommended to wear a helmet. As for the quotas, they are limited. As it’s a full day of school, children have a lunch and snack break in several stoppers on the hill.
ICE SKATING AS A FAMILY!
Beyond being able to practice cross-country skiing, this place of Ushuaia invites you to do other activities such as ice skating. In fact, it’s the only ski resort in Argentina that has an ice rink at its base, perfect for a family experience. The best? You can visit it in any month of winter thanks to the cooling system that was implemented in 2018. You only need your ski pass to access this space, totally free.
WHERE TO EAT IN CERRO CASTOR?
Where to eat in Cerro Castor should not be a concern for its visitors. This ski center also has eight gastronomic points where you can enjoy exquisite dishes while enjoying the Alpine landscape.
Although the lamb and the centolla stand out among the proposal of each restaurant of the place such as traditional dishes of Tierra del Fuego, the gastronomic offer is wide. It ranges from fast food to high-end cuisine without missing desserts, so there are also food options for the little ones in the house. There are eight distributed in different heights of the hill as well:
- Abode of the Eagle: a la carte restaurant made a reference for local gastronomy, not only for its exquisite dishes but for offering a wood-burning home with a perfect sunset to share a Baileys coffee, hot chocolate or whiskey to the rocks.
- Restaurant 480: one of the busiest of the Hill, since all the roads lead to this point (here ends the Forest Chairlift). Offers self-service with fixed rotary menus, buffet at the back and cafeteria-pastry at the bottom. The mountain views that are achieved from its outdoor deck can be enjoyed with a beer.
- Terraces of the Beaver: you find it at level 420 (at the foot of the Snow Park). It stands out for its buffet and gourmet a la carte service, being a plus of the place the wine tasting and the Snow & Sushi with local fish and variety of sautéed. It’s not left behind in terms of the views: magnificent from their deck-solarium.
- The Snow bar: it’s more café-like, offering: full toast, pizzas, loin sandwiches and the most famous churros on site.
- La Barra-600: known for American lunches, it offers delicious dishes under the rhythm of reggae and rock. Inviting to taste everything from succulent Creole lomitos, to choripan; from a coffee to a crown. The deck has lounge chairs from where you can observe the skiers.
- Old Beaver: is located at level 520 (at the foot of the Teleskies of the sun and the east). With a vintage style and the surrounding mountains, it offers a café, a variety of sandwiches –from pigs or vegetarians.
- Ona House: located at the base of the hill, a good option for mornings. It offers cookies, multi-flavored coffee and patisserie service. If you go at noon, it presents you a deli light menu with: special sandwiches, salads and a dish of the day. For those who visit in the afternoon, it has a vibe change with music, variety of tea and drinks ideal for post-skiing.
- Alpino Sports Bar: the newest in the place. It’s a sports bar near the skating rink. You can taste a hot chocolate, sandwiches and amply pastry. There are two screens to play table football or PlayStation.
MOUNTAIN SHOPPING, YOU CAN RENT YOUR WINTER APPAREL
In addition to everything, Cerro Castor has three super boutiques to do mountain shopping and rent or buy winter clothing or just any equipment you need for your snow adventure.
