    The climate in San Juan, “the land of the sun”

    The climate in San Juan is characterized by having a lot of sunny days, beyond the climatic conditions of each season.

    Despite temperature variations, this province is characterized by having a lot of sunny days, which favors tourists. The climate in San Juan allows outdoor activities to take place all year round. It is estimated that of the 365 days of the calendar, 300 are sunny and without precipitation. From there, it has been christened “the land of the sun”.

    To make you understand better, we explain it to you like this: in San Juan there are two types of weather. In the west the climate is arid high mountain, with average annual temperatures that are located at values below 12ºC, a lot of daily and annual thermal amplitude in addition to spot rainfall.

    On the contrary, to the east, the climate is arid with mountain ranges and annual temperatures ranging from 14 to 18ºC. In this case, there is also very marked thermal amplitude, not only during the same day but all year round. Rainfall is scarce –almost zero– except in summer when torrential precipitations are recorded.

    But that’s not all. San Juan has another peculiarity at temperature level. We are talking about the “Zonda wind”, a hot and dry wind blowing in the west of the country to the leeward of the Andes Mountains.

    It is a very characteristic wind of the region of Cuyo and the province of Mendoza, known due to its strong gusts that raise storms of land and dust, raise the temperature and dry the air. It usually appears between the months of May and August, although in some seasons it can be extended until November.     CLIMATE OF SAN JUAN ACCORDING TO THE SEASONS

    •         Summer: Despite the low humidity in San Juan, the weather in summer is very hot in the day, especially at noon and in the early afternoon. Mornings and evenings are warm and pleasant. The months of this time are the ones with most rainfall. The average maximum temperature is 35ºC and the minimum is 15ºC.
    •       Winter: the days are cool. The temperature is low, but it is counteracted by the sun that is present most days in San Juan. On the contrary, the nights without the warmth of the sun are quite cold. In terms of temperatures, the average maximums are at 22ºC and minimums are at 1ºC.
    •         Autumn: the weather of San Juan is very pleasant during the day, although the nights can be quite cool. It is the season with the best average rainfall, so in addition to matching low season, they have ensured the good weather. It is an excellent season to travel thanks to the small amount of tourism recorded, which makes the prices more accessible. The average extreme temperatures are at 30ºC and 4ºC minimum.
    •     Spring: Like autumn, the weather and temperature are pleasant during the day thanks to the sun, which allows you to enjoy the trip a lot. The nights are fresh but pleasant. The average maximum temperature during these months is 34ºC and the average minimum is 11ºC.

    As you can see, despite the climatic variations, typical of temperatures, the weather in San Juan favors tourism all year round. In this sense, the province has much to offer.
