Discover the charm of the excursions available with the Australis Cruise. You won’t want to miss it!
AINSWORTH-ISLOTES TUCKERS BAY TOUR
It takes place on the second day of the four-night Punta Arenas-Ushuaia route, starting with a sailing in the Almirantazgo center to the vicinity of the Marinelli Glacier, located in Ainsworth Bay.
It is a magical adventure just as it is the opportunity to know the resurgence of life after the retreat of the ices. Like every expedition, we explore every hidden corner. A walk takes place, leading to the beaver dam, being surrounded by a majestic sub-Antarctic Magellan forest.
Once on the beach or island, we might be able to spot the majestic sub-American sea elephants, it will all depend on the migration of this colony. We have lunch, following the tour of the Tuckers islets. From zodiac boats, you can delight your view with the eye-catching Magellan and Cormorant penguins. In September and April this walk is replaced by a hike near the glacier in Brookes Bay.
PÍA GLACIER-AVENIDA DE LOS GLACIARES
This tour is scheduled for the third day of the four-night Punta Arenas-Ushuaia route. You start by navigating the Northeast arm of the Beagle Canal until you enter the Pía Fjord where we disembark.
It’s the fact that a walk is made to the viewpoint that shows us the majesty of the glacier of the same name which makes this excursion an unforgettable experience. Its main part extends from the top of the mountain range to the sea, giving us a wonderful sight that will stay with you forever.
After this activity, we continue with the navigation along the imposing “Avenida de los Glaciares”.
PÍA GLACIER GARIBALDI, GLACIER EXCURSION
This tour of the excursions available with the Australis Cruise is scheduled for the third day of the 4-night cruise, with the Ushuaia-Punta Arenas route. The route is very similar to the previous one; sailing from the Northwest arm of the Beagle Canal to the Pious Fjord, where we descend to walk to the glacier of the same name.
The difference, in this case, is the subsequent entrance to the Garibaldi Fjord for another walk. This time, the activity takes place among the Patagonian cold forest: going up to the base of the waterfall of glacial origin.
The scenery from the place is undoubtedly stunning. Those who do not wish to disembark will have the option of staying aboard with the Captain, who will bow towards garibaldi Glacier; because they appreciate the natural spectacle from the outer decks of Australis’ ship.
CAPE HORN-BAY WULAIA
The adventure begins with a navigation along the Murray Canal and Nassau Bay, bound for Cape Horn National Park. There, we will disembark only if weather conditions permit it.
Whatever it is, this place represents a unique spectacle. It’s an almost vertical promontory, 425 meters high. Discovered in 1616, it was declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 2005. For years, it became an important route for sailboats navigating between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Then, in the afternoon, we disembark in Wulaia Bay of significant historical cargo! We are talking about what was one of the largest settlements of the native Yámanas canoeers. On site, you will discover fascinating stories without leaving aside the beautiful nature. In fact, we will walk to the viewpoint through the Magellan forest of lengas, coigs, canelos and ferns.
The experience is planned for the fourth day of the four-night route, from Punta Arenas to Ushuiaia. In case you choose the tour in the opposite direction (Ushuaia-Punta Arenas), this tour takes place on the second day of the Australis Cruise expedition.
SINE AGOSTINI-GLACIER EAGLE-GLACIER CONDOR
This adventure is lived on the fourth day of the four-night Ushuaia-Punta Arenas route. We sail along the Cockburn Canal bound for the bosom of Angostini, inside which you can see glaciers that descend from the center of the Darwin mountain range. Some of them reach the sea, so we can have them very close.
Then, we will descend and, with the help of the zodiac boats, we will arrive to a place where we will take a gentle walk around the lagoon that forms when the Eagle Glacier melts. Actually, we’ll be face to face with the ice sculpture!
We will sail in Zodiac boats to approach the Condor Glacier in the afternoon hours. In addition to contemplating beautiful nature, you will learn about the formation of glaciers and their influence on the captivating geography of the Fuegian canals.
MAGDALENA ISLAND
If weather permits it, on the last day of the four-night Ushuaia-Punta Arenas route, we disembark on Magdalena Island. This place used to be a must stop for the supply of navigators. The idea is to take a walk to the lighthouse of the place, from where you can observe an immense and magical colony of Penguins of Magellan.
Please note that if you travel in September and April, this tour is replaced by a landing on Marta Island, home to South American sea lions that we can see from zodiac boats. Either activity is carried out as a closure of the Australis cruise with arrival at Punta Arenas.
These are the excursions available with the Australis Cruise. Remember that expeditions vary by route, departing from Punta Arenas or departing from Ushuaia. However, there is the option to make them all with eight-night itineraries. Cape Horns like Pía Glacier are the “stars” of the Cruise, both destinations are must-see, so they are included in all routes.
But that’s not all! If you have much more time to vacation and you wish to keep touring; you can expand the itinerary even more! Combining the Australis Cruise with the attractions of your place of arrival. As an example, you can give a try to places like Calafate or Torres del Paine.
