Requirements for travelling to La Rioja

By countering the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more Argentine provinces are implementing measures for the entry to their territory. In this sense, we want to inform you about the requirements to travel to La Rioja and other documentation.

FOR ARGENTINE NATIONALS AND RESIDENTS

•         Documentation

For those who have ID cards with Argentine nationality or residence who are over 18 years of age, nothing else is needed. This document guarantees entry to the province, allowing all visits.

This varies some bit for minors whose ID does not have the names of the parents on the back. They will be required to have a family notebook or birth certificate, to avoid possible inconveniences.

If, for any reason, minors travel only with one parent, an authorization signed by the non-travelling parent is required. In either case, identity documents cannot be expired.

•         Vehicle

If you are travelling in your own vehicle –in addition to the current driver’s record– you must present proof of payment for the corresponding insurance and the green/blue card (if applicable). If the vehicle is rented, the renter has to provide you with the necessary documentation with the exception of the driving record.

•         Covid-19

As far as Covid-19 is concerned, the requirements that La Rioja asks of Argentine nationals or residents are: 

• Summer Certificate (PDF or printed).

It should be noted that, at the moment, the province of La Rioja is not applying for the covid-19 negative certificate, nor travel insurance or health coverage. However, it is good to have the support of a traveler’s assistance that guarantees medical service, especially in the pandemic period we live in.

Additionally, these policies offer a comprehensive service. For example, in case of Covid-19, you are covered by change of airfare, food, accommodation, family transfers, internment and more. Keep in mind that although the province itself does not require any of these receipts, some localities can ask for it, such as: Chamical, Arauco, Juan Facundo Quiroga and Castro Barros.

DOCUMENTATION FOR FOREIGNERS TRAVELING TO LA RIOJA

•         Documentation

The usual documentation for foreigners that wish to enter La Rioja is the same as required anywhere else in the Argentine territory: Current passport, visa in the appropriate case and birth certificate and/or parents authorization in case that minors travel alone or without one of their parents.

•         Vehicle

In case of rented vehicle, in addition to the documentation of the car provided by the renter, it is necessary the international driving certificate along with the registration of your country of origin that of course has to be in force at the time of control.

•         Covid-19

With the new Covid-19 restrictions, all foreigners who wish to enter Argentine soil, including La Rioja, must submit, as well as the documentation mentioned above, an Affidavit and a negative PCR test (performed no more than 72 hours prior to the flight).

They are also required to quarantine for 7 days, before driving around the country. After doing this, it is that you can apply for “Summer Certificate” permission from the App Care to circulate, allowing you to move within Argentina and complete the Affidavit of La Rioja province.
