MENDOZA CLIMATE DEPENDING ON THE AREA

MENDOZA’S WEATHER BASING ON THE SEASONS OF THE YEAR 

Spring in Mendoza can be rainy and short overall. Its most likeable month it’s October due to the arrival of the Atlantic winds, changing Mendoza’s atmosphere to one less dry and warmer. On the other hand, summer is presented as the most rainy, unstable season of them all. Sometimes there are recorded even electric storms and hailstorms that produce several damage to the farms. RAINS AND WINDS ON MENDOZA 

After the above, it is important to talk about the Mendoza rains. They are sporadic and irregular, but when they occur they are usually very intense and, in this sense, cause floods that attack the agricultural area and urban areas.

In short, rainfall is so scarce in Mendoza that the province reaches annual values of 192 mm in the east and 343 mm in the south, the Northeast area being the maximum aridity, with values of less than 100 mm of annual precipitation.

The rainfall regime in Mendoza is summer, which means that the greatest rainfall is usually recorded between the months of November and March, with special intensity between December and February.

Sometimes, depending on the atmospheric condition, these masses of cold and moist air cross the mountain laces, undergoing great changes until reaching the low areas already converted into dry and warm winds. We mean the famous Zonda winds.

Zonda winds often cause sharp temperature increases that are very dangerous for crops, especially grapes. This type of wind is more intensely manifested in the months of August and September, being able to reach a temperature of 40°C.
