Tucumán is a very interesting province for its cultural heritage and incredible landscapes, but in it converge different climates and microclimates. This makes essential to know what clothes to wear to Tucumán.

Packing the suitcase for this destination can become a real challenge. By simplifying your work, we share some data and recommendations that will help you choose the outfits you will need.

Remember that inadequate clothing can prevent healthy enjoyment of your travel itinerary. There are clothes for every season, weather and even excursion.

But! Before we go into direct matter for a winter vacation and a summer vacation, we want to emphasize an important point that applies to the whole province:

Regardless of the time of year and the place of Tucumán that you visit, there is a lot of thermal amplitude in the province. This means that, throughout the day, the temperature rises and drops suddenly and considerably, the difference being up to 20°C between the maximum and the minimum.

For this reason, the main suggestion is to apply the onion style! How? With several layers of clothing, in order to warm up or remove pieces as the temperature drops or rises.

Hold on there, that’s not all. Beyond the thermal amplitude we just talked about, you should also know that the weather can vary a lot more depending on the area. As an example, in the case of Fiambalá, Concepción and San Miguel de Tucumán, winters there are very temperate and barely rainy, but summers can be very humid and hot. In these places the rainy season runs from December to March.

As for Tafí del Valle and Mollar, other fairly touristic areas of the province, winters are very cold and dry, but summers are the wettest and mildest. Maximum temperatures reach an average of 26°C.

As for Amaicha del Valle and Ruinas de Quilme, winter season is cold and dry, while summer is hot and also dry. How do you know what clothes to wear to Tucumán then? Look at the options you have according to the two main stations and consult our article on the weather in the province for more accurate information about temperatures.

CLOTHES FOR A WINTER IN TUCUMÁN

After the above and always considering the onion style when it comes to dressing, we recommend including in your bag for winter:

    •         A thick jacket or coat, preferably waterproof. This is going to be the outer layer of your wardrobe, protecting you from the wind and possible rains. Consider using jackets with a hoodie.
    •       A rain pilot or a waterproof cape, especially for the day you will visit Tafí del Valle and its surroundings.
    •       Several T-shirts. Some short sleeves and other long sleeves because, depending on the area, one might be more useful than the other. If you have a T-shirt or thermal T-shirt, add them to your suitcase too.
    •         A scarf, a hat and an umbrella, especially for the months of July and August where temperatures usually drop a lot.
    •         Lightweight jackets and divers or wool coats that you can put to dry comfortably and quickly.
    •         Long trousers, thermal tights, waterproof and non-slip footwear, with good grip and rubber sole, depending on the attractions you’re going to visit.
    •         For a winter in the area of Amaicha and Quilmes Ruins, don’t forget to wear a hat and sunscreen. Despite the season, the sun is very strong in noon hours.

HOW TO DRESS FOR A SUMMER IN TUCUMÁN

Deciding which clothes to wear to visit Tucumán during the summer is easier: it’s always very hot! The only difference between zones is whether it is a drier or wetter heat.

For this season, we suggest the lightest and loosenest clothing possible, preferably cotton. Sleeveless T-shirts, dresses, shorts or shorts, light shoes (but with good grip) or low sandals are always a good pick for this place. These, however, are basics for visiting Tucumán: a hat, dark sunglasses and, just in case, some raincoat.

In the same way, we will always recommend that you include a light jacket if it happens to cool down. This isn’t very likely, but it’s not too much to prevent.
