Going to Puerto Madryn with children to enjoy!
Madryn, a port to visit with children. A magical family experience that will give you the opportunity to discover it all together! The fantastic whale watching.
Animals are the favorites of big and small, especially if it’s marine wildlife! Who won’t want to enjoy a whale show? Going to Puerto Madryn with children between the months of August and December will give us that opportunity, when the Southern Right Whale reaches its shores. It’s an unprecedented live show! With the possibility of seeing females give birth or breastfeed their whales.
There are two ways to live the experience. The first is through whale watching “from the coast”, as some cetaceans usually stay in the waters of the New Gulf –in front of the city of Puerto Madryn– watching from the coast or the beach; being “El Doradillo” the most recommended. It’s a nice place for them and their healthy enjoyment. It gives them amazing spaces to run, walk and play outdoors
The other and most requested option is “on-board” whale watching. The adventure can be carried out aboard traditional boats and authorized ships or through the Yellow Submarine; a submersible ship that gives passengers the opportunity to witness the specimens from the upper deck –as in a traditional exit– or from the underwater cabin where children will have the feeling of diving with the whales.
TIPS FOR WHALE WATCHING WITH CHILDREN
Whatever your choice, you’ll have the necessary security measures. The important thing to consider in this case is the time factor. The activity as such lasts 1:45 hrs or a little more (depending on the proximity of the animals), but warrants a previous transportation that –depending on age– could be tedious for the little ones.
It happens that the boats for the sighting depart from Puerto Pirámides, small town and only urbanized area of the Valdés Peninsula where you arrive after a 120Km tour from Puerto Madryn.
The distance is long and increases further, considering that most of the route is ripio. We are talking about a journey of approximately 2:30 hrs, which could bore the children. From there it’s recommended to bring a tablet or ipad that allows them to entertain themselves while the trip is carried out.
Other tip is to bring food and drinks. The journey is long and only one stop is made, although in Puerto Pirámides you will find restaurants and cafes, there aren’t many options for kids, so the best option is to pack their bag fully. If you have any doubt you can send a message to our travel advisors.
If you’re planning on traveling with babies, don’t take a stroller. Although the activity takes most of the day, everything is tight and maybe the stroller will get in your own way a little bit. If you choose the option of “El Doradillo” it would be advisable to wear a coat –whatever the time– considering that there is usually a lot of wind.
Last but not least, take with you a camera and, if possible, a filmmaker. The will be unique moments that you will definitely want to capture to remember, especially when we talk about the little ones of the house. Although they will also remain in the memory, nothing better than capturing them and being able to see them again and again from time to time.
