WHAT IS PORT BEMBERG?
It’s a reserve of 400 hectares whose name is due to the family that founded the village, the Bembergs. Within this preserved, private space, there are several buildings that guests of the accommodations have access to and can take advantage of to visit.
Among the buildings we can find La Casa Bemberg, La Posada, the chapel, the Matero, the nursery and the restaurant. In addition, there are trails, rivers, waterfalls, missionary fauna and local vegetation in the nature reserve where you can carry out navigation, trekking and interpretation activities.
Following the above, it is important to note that Puerto Bemberg is certified for sustainable tourism by the Rainforest Alliance.
HISTORY OF PORT BEMBERG
With the aim of investing capital for the development of the yerba mate industry, in 1924, brothers Federico and Otto settled in Missions and, from there, their descendants settled in the area.
After seeing great potential in the Paraná River and the jungles that frame it, they created a company called SAFAC, dedicated to the yerba mate. Similarly, they acquired large areas of land in the area to generate their entrepreneurship. It’s because of this that Puerto Libertad emerges.
The company’s activity created jobs and made workers need to settle near the workplace. As a result, the population and its shops developed. Then, over time, they wanted to preserve part of the area’s jungle and historic buildings, orienting them to sustainable tourism, with the creation of the Puerto Bemberg nature reserve.
