Requirements to enter El chaltén
The requirements to enter El chaltén are easy to manage and allow you to have a responsible trip in the Pandemic we are going through.

As part of the Tourist Opening that took place since December 28, 2020, a number of requirements must be met to enter El Chaltén, a town in the province of Santa Cruz that emphasizes the importance of traveling in a responsible way after the Pandemic in which we live. Thus, it increases health security measures for both locals and outsiders.
No matter the access route –land or air– everyone must comply with rules that go beyond the constant use of mask, hand washing and social distancing. We are talking about a series of permits that, fortunately, can be processed easily and quickly, via online. See what they are and what the process is like for each of these.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO TRAVEL TO EL CHALTÉN?
- Printed permission of Circulation Santa Cruz: is managed through the website of the government of the province circulacion.santacruz.gob.ar. Once there, you must select the air/land traffic option for particular/tourist reasons, depending on the reason for your trip.
- Affidavit for Circulation and Permanence: Requested through the Santa Cruz saludsantacruz.gob.ar government health portal by clicking on the link that bears the same name of this specific requirement.
- Individual Affidavit: each tourist must make it attesting not to present symptoms of covid-19 contagion. For this requirement you must download the Affidavit for Tourism 2021. It consists of a form that you must give in the entrance garita to the locality.
- Proof of reservation/contracting of the place of accommodation: you must stay in hotels and establishments that are duly registered and enabled on the official tourist page El Chaltén. The idea is to be sure that you will stay in places that comply (fully) with all preventive measures against Covid-19.
As you will see, entering El Chaltén does not require a National Circulation Permit, neither a negative PCR nor a traveler’s assistance with Covid-19 coverage. However, it is important to have health insurance to guarantee you care in case a disease at your destination grows, including coronavirus. You don’t want anything to tarnish your plans!
In this order of ideas, it is appropriate to highlight Article 3 of Resolution 627/2020 of the Ministry of Health of the Nation. Through this, the Government of Argentina urges seniors and other risk groups (people with pre-existing diseases such as asthma), to avoid traveling and going away from home.
WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS ENABLED FOR EL CHALTÉN?
As mentioned above, one of the requirements for vacationing in Chaltén is to stay in an establishment that actually complies with activated health protocols, depending on protecting the health of locals and foreigners.
