Believe it or not, packing your suitcase is as important to the development of a trip as making reservations. Each season and activity or excursion requires a specific clothing. Therefore, it is important to know what clothes to bring to San Martín de Los Andes.

Too easy. It all depends on the season of the year in which you are going to travel and the tours that you are going to include in your travel itinerary. However, in the case of this destination, a little warm clothing is necessary even in the summer time.

It happens that, as we specified in our article on the climate in San Martín de Los Andes, the climatic conditions of this city in the province of Neuquén are cool in any season of the year. For all seasons, the temperature decreases at nightfall and the wind is a constant throughout much of the day.

In that sense, it is recommended to dress in the onion style. That is, with several layers of clothing so that you can put on or take off clothes depending on the temperatures. In the same way, let’s see what is the clothing that you cannot miss for a winter and summer.

CLOTHING FOR A WINTER IN SAN MARTÍN DE LOS ANDES

Winter in San Martín de Los Andes is synonymous with adventure on the snow. This place in Patagonia Argentina is home to Cerro Chapelco, one of the most recognized winter centers after having the largest elevation in South America

Skiing and snowboarding is a must-see for young and old. In this sense, you must have the appropriate clothing. Do not worry if you do not have it currently, in the same city there are stores where you can buy or rent these clothes and accessories:

    •       Dress with several layers of clothing distributed as follows: the first synthetic fiber and waterproof that draws moisture away from sweat and allows perspiration. The second, synthetic and light that does not hinder movements and isolates us from the cold, allowing us to maintain a stable body temperature. The third, waterproof and breathable (windbreaker), to cover the previous layers.
    •         Waterproof pants with ankle adjustments. This will prevent water from entering your body.
    •         Specific waterproof gloves for snow sports. These are made of special fibers, superimposed through layers.
    •         Hat with fleece lining, ears and collar. Wool scarves are not recommended as they get wet and can be dangerous for some maneuvers.
    •   For footwear, we suggest medium or high boots, with a thick sole and preferably made of rubber. In this way, the entry of water into the body and unforeseen landslides are avoided. Make sure they are not made of plastic, but lined with insulating fabrics.
    •         Glasses that protect you against UV rays. It is important to avoid eye injuries, so it is suggested to buy them in specialized opticians.
    •         Sunscreen for the face. It is the only part that will be exposed to UV rays and it is necessary to avoid the harmful effects of the sun. Apply it half an hour before going on the track.
    •         Skis, boots, poles and helmets. Do not worry, it is not necessary to make a large investment in these implements, especially if you do not know when you are going to use them again. You can rent them in the same stores in the winter center. In fact, schools make it easy for their classes.

CLOTHING FOR A SUMMER IN THIS DESTINATION

Although water activities stand out in the summer season, for this season you should consider at least a warm clothing, raincoat or windbreaker. As we mentioned at the beginning, even when during the day you can experience temperatures of more than 25°C, you can experience rain and strong winds. Meanwhile, the nights are always cold.

Once again, the key is to dress onion style, although, this time, with much lighter clothing:

    •         Light clothing: cool shirts, gym pants or convertibles, shorts and bermuda shorts; including bathing suit and towel for beach days.
    •       T-shirt or fleece, windbreaker jacket, if it’s waterproof, better!
    •         Spare footwear and socks. The ideal is to combine sports shoes with trekking boots.
    •       Cap, hat and sunglasses that protect you from the sunrays.
    •       Sunscreen, lip balm and insect repellent.
