    10 de March, 2021

The well-known “Land of the Sun” has a fairly different climate, and it varies by different factors: the time of year, the region, the altitude and the relief. Still, temperatures are pleasant at any time of the year, which means that the seasons to travel to San Juan are all of them or, rather, whatever you choose.

It all depends on your tastes and for that we invite you to consult our article on the climate in San Juan, where you can have more specific details of the temperatures that are lived in this province of Cuyo. The important thing is that the most popular excursions of the place are operational all year round.

However, there are other factors to consider when traveling. For example, holidays, school breaks (winter and summer holidays for kids), and important festivities of the province such as La Fiesta Nacional del Sol. It is no secret that the influx of travelers tends to increase on those dates and, consequently, the prices.

So, your budget is another important topic to consider if you haven’t decided what date you’re going to travel on yet. And hey! Don’t forget the activities you want to do. Some very punctual ones such as Windsurfing (in the Cuesta del Viento Dique), are subject to the weather. Simply put, this specific sport won’t be able to do during the high winter season.

WHAT IS THE BEST SEASON TO TRAVEL TO SAN JUAN?

As we told you, it’s all up to you, your companions and your travel plans. In this order of ideas, we must say that for activities there are not many climatic limitations. Almost every month of the year allows you to do many activities, the exception being winter in very specific cases such as the one we already mentioned and the Crossing of the Andes.

However, summer is the high season in San Juan. This season coincides with the school break, as tourism grows considerably. The same goes for boys’ winter holidays, which usually coincides with the month of July.

Please note that given the influx of travelers, prices tend to rise and accommodation is usually filled very quickly. In this sense, it is recommended to book in advance. If you are looking for economics, the recommendation is to avoid both school holidays (winter and summer). In autumn and spring you will find better weather and better price.

It should be noted that the National Festival of the Sun is celebrated in summer, a traditional event of San Juan of great size for the whole nation. So if you decide to travel in high season you must live the celebration, even if it is a day. To do this, we invite you to contact our travel specialists who will help you include this holiday in your itinerary and guide you with the accommodation.

The same in case you decide to travel in Carnival or Easter. It will be nice to help you with the reservations. Please note that there are travel packages that include everything you need: transfers (with air tickets), lodging, excursions and walks, also food.

SAN JUAN IN SUMMER AND WINTER

    •         Summer

Summer is quite intense in San Juan, with temperatures remaining above 30ºC and days that can reach 40ºC. Just because of the high temperatures, summer becomes the ideal season for nautical and high mountain activities, since in these destinations the climate is a little cooler due to the altitude. Take advantage and consult our article on High Mountain.

Also, you should know that it is the wettest and rainiest time of the year, but, despite that, rainfall is very scarce compared to other provinces. The exception with respect to this specific topic, is presented in the area of the Valley of the Moon, where sometimes rains prevent the excursion (though it is not very common).

    •         Winter

In the winter a sunny day can reach 10ºC, something that happens frequently since St. John is the land of the sun. But, in the same way, the temperature can easily drop to below zero during the early morning. Whatever it is, the weather is friendly this season.

If you are thinking of performing nautical or other activities such as the Wine Route and the Olive Route, it is not ideal for you to travel at this time. In case you can’t travel in another season, or are just worried about it, most of San Juan’s activities can be done in winter.
